Information[]
Tengu is a rare light mech. Tengu is currently only obtainable via event crate rush, being the second mech to be obtained this way, being released after Stalker (update: it can now be bought for 1125 A-coins). Tengu's ability is somewhat comparable to that of Lancer, but trades the ability to parkour with a damaging ground smash, dealing damage(38k at max) in a massive 15m radius. Tengu gains a stealth effect not unlike Shadow after this groundslam that lasts 4 seconds as well as applying a stasis effect on all mechs caught in the radius. At the apex of his jump Tengu is basically invincible. This makes Tengu a very aggressively capable mech with a high skill cap.
Upsides[]
Tengu has an extremely high health pool and an extremely powerful ability, making Tengu a menace up close. Although Tengu's ability is less flexible than Lancer's, it makes up for that by making Tengu extremely powerful at short range. Not only does it deal damage in a huge radius around him, the Sky Strike also slows down your opponents and puts you in stealth, giving you a major advantage against your opponents. Similar to Lancer, Tengu can also use his ability to dodge things like rocket mortars, javelin racks, incoming projectiles. Tengu's dodging capability also allows him to avoid EMPs from Zephyrs and Surges, Guardian's system crash, Redox's caustic blast and many more abilities due to Tengu being virtually untouchable at the apex of his jump.
Downsides[]
Even though Tengu is very powerful up close, he looses a lot of value at long range. He also suffers from having light energy capacity, meaning he cant be loaded out with the best weapons for front-line mechs, thus lowering his offensive potential quite a lot. Tengu also requires a lot of skill to master.
Strategy[]
Using:[]
Tengu requires a very aggressive play style to work well, profiting from both his high health-pool and powerful ability. If timed correctly Tengu can dodge most things, leaving Tengu in a very advantageous position. Since Tengu can apply stealth at the apex of its jump for a duration of 4 seconds, you can use it to break missile locks (before they fire) and dash towards an enemy that is camping.
Countering:[]
When countering Tengu, range is your greatest ally. Use distance to your advantage as a Tengu can easily dodge anything you shoot at it, jump over you, and kill you when you're too close. Delaying your ability to after the expected timing can throw off your opponent and make them effectively waste their ability, while you can stun him with an EMP (if you have the right mech) that the opponent could've dodged beforehand.
Builds[]
- Arc Torrents: High close range damage.
- Repeater: High close range damage.
- Shotguns: Somewhat similar to Arc torrents, can be used in combination with arc torrents to more effectively fill the limited energy your given. Top 5 mech with Shotgun 8s
- Javelin Racks, Helix Racks, and Disc Launchers: These weapons would also (surprisingly) be useful, since they'd allow the mech to stay in cover and use it's massive health pool and close-range ability as a defensive mechanism.
- Revokers : These weapons are powerful with Scout mechs as they are legendary. These weapons have no ammo cooldown and can tolerate mechs such as Guardian.
- Fragment Guns : A rare version of shotguns.
- Howlers:The Howler has a relatively small magazine size, which can make it very effective against opponents with strong shields or armor layers.
